A Day In The Life : Kristin Dahl

February 8, 2018

Kristin Dahl is a Los Angeles based, Author, Nutritionist, and Women’s Wellness educator who offers a fresh take on Holistic living in a modern world. Her teachings come from an extensive background in holistic health, herbal medicine, and functional nutrition. Kristin is the founder of The Women’s Wellness Collective & the holistic lifestyle hub, Dahl House Nutrition.

Living in a city requires consistent acts of self-care and ample time away from the frenetic energy. I find that my nervous system calls for a constant reconnection to nature, grounding, and herbs + foods that support stability. Moving with the rhythm of nature and the seasons, I honor the call for more or less rest. There are times  for expanding and times for going inward. I support these shifts with different foods and self-care practices. Year round, I always keep my body moving to support blood flow, lymphatic clearance, and a balanced mind. I also spend as much time as possible in nature to reconnect with my senses and my innate ability to just simply be.

My days consist of the following rituals & routines to fully support my strength & immunity.

While some days are better than others, I try to stick to similar routines (which shift with the seasons) to enhance my wellbeing.

MORNING

The morning is always the most important part of the day for me. This is when I like to set the tone for the day. I do my best to stay off my phone for at least the first hour after rising, so my nervous system has a chance to feel into the day.

I always drink two large glasses of water in the morning (sometimes with lemon).

Recently I’ve been drinking Nettle & burdock Infusions throughout the day, but other favorites include: lemon balm, red raspberry & holy basil. Dragon herbs longevity tea is another one of my favorites & I’ve also been loving Chaga decoctions, and chaga chais this winter.

Simples Tonics is my new favorite place for quick nourishment & replenishing.

Followed by:

In the Winter: A warm magnesium & lavender bath.

Fall/Spring/Summer: A morning walk in the sun.

Some type of exercise - I love to hike & walk daily.

Food:

I generally start with tea + infusions & then typically have some eggs & greens, fresh green juice or a protein smoothie. I shoot for ½ my body weight in oz of water per day.

Superfoods:

Rosewater, Chlorophyll, Nettles, Burdock

Rituals:

Walks in the sun. Deep breathing. Mindfulness meditations & clearing space/energy in my home before the work day begins.

Daily Skincare routine:

Nucifera - The balm

Rose Water

Earth tonics - Cardamom Creme Cleanser

True botanicals - cellular repair serum & radiance oil

Isun- soothing relief balm

Tech breaks are HUGE for me - This constant flow of static energy is a bit much. I unplug as often as possible - taking days, weekends & afternoons completely disconnected. This is often a challenge with staying “in the flow,” but I’d honestly rather be rooted in myself/life vs. responding to every email, text, message & social media ping as it comes through. I think this is incredibly important for all of us to remember. We are truly not meant to be glued to devices 24/7 & the responses can wait - it’s crucial that we connect to the moments, one another,  and real life.

AFTERNOON

My days are a mix of business-related tasks, writing, and working privately with clients.

Food:

This is usually my most substantial meal of the day.  I often fill up on a big salad loaded with avocado, nuts, seeds, a mix of whatever vegetables are in my fridge + sauerkraut & sometimes brown rice or quinoa.

Rituals:

Throughout the workday, I like to take breath breaks, stretch, make tea, and take short walks to shift the energy + I often use a roller to clear tension and keep my body open. I also often burn copal, palo santo, and sage + spritz my face with rose water for a boost.

Superfoods:

Eidon Ionic Minerals

NIGHT

Most evenings, I unwind by either taking a long walk, an Epsom salt & lavender bath, reading, stretching, or having tea.

Food:

Dinner almost always consists of some type of veggie bowl with yummy sauce & lots of superfoods & sprouts mixed in. Occasionally this includes some type of animal protein, but for the most part, I lean towards vegan & vegetarian cuisine.

Rituals:

My bedtime routine always includes essential oils, ten deep breaths, and unplugging from electronics an hour or two before bed. I generally try to get off screens once the sun goes down to support deep rest.

I love reading, watching movies with my love & relaxing with gentle music before bed.

Products:

Omica Magnesium Flakes

Omica Lavender

Mountain Rose Lemon Balm

+ A repeat of my morning skincare routine
