Quarantine Journal : Kjord Davis, Transformation Coach, Kundalini Educator

May 7, 2020

Kjord Davis is a Transformation Coach, Kundalini Educator, Astrologer, Sound Healer, and Co-founder of @indigoyogalab

He shares with us his daily flow and reflections during this time of personal space in quarantine that we all are experiencing together.

Self-Care Flow

What an incredible and poignant time to be alive. This collective pause has really allowed the space for me to unwind, refresh and re-prioritize. The momentum of the “DOingness” was not sustainable and I was inching the black hole of all out-burnout. It has been so great to release any old cords of attachment (pun intended!). The gift of this time has really been to marinate in the rest and renewal of BE-ing at home. That being said, my must-haves that have added to my now in-home self-care and spa experience are, Recherche Beauté’s Aura IV Essence. It is so calming and soothing for the redness I sometimes get in the center of my face. Sidenote - I am obsessed with and love this entire line! Each product luxuriates and activates in its own unique way. They compliment each other so well that it is difficult to call out one individually, as it is an entire system I cannot live without.

Mental and Spiritual Practice

My daily mind and body renewal and reconnection practice is Kundalini yoga. It scrubs and clears my mind and directs my mind back to the ways of my heart - my true navigator. Kundalini is known to work directly on the nervous system, of which mine currently feels very tender and vulnerable in its new skin, however it opens me up to uncover and discover the gifts of these fragile times.

Favorite Products

I have been obsessing over mother nature’s plant medicine and life force nectars, amping up my Young Living Essential Oils collection. Currently, my favorite is Australian Kuranya. It is great for waking up the mind, going deep into meditation as well as lifting my spirit. Young Living smells so pure to me and as we absorb everything into the skin, I want the best!

My final must-haves are Sunpotion’s Transcendent Elixirs. Before becoming ME everyday, I start my day with one full drop of each of their elixirs in my morning tea, a concoction of Ashwaganda, Triphala, Bacopa, Shatavari and then I add a little trace minerals with Lotus Blooming Herbs Shilajit.

Quarantine Journal : Nitsa Citrine, Creative Director, Artist, Alchemist

May 1, 2020

Nitsa Citrine is a Creative Director, Artist, and Alchemist.

She shares with us her daily flow and reflections during this time of personal space in quarantine that we all are experiencing together.

Self-care flow

Tuning inwards, finding pleasure and gratitude in the everyday, cherishing my personal and family's  health and my community’s safety, rooting into self care and creative projects , surrendering to and trusting the cosmos!

Movement

Daily walks in the neighborhood, restorative yoga, holistic cooking,  spontaneous solo dance parties…also - cleaning the house - a good vacuum can make all the difference!

I particularly love Elena Brower’s yoga classes these days  - you can take / find them on glo.com along with many other great yoga classes.

Cooking! Baking!  Fermenting! Pickling!

I started “Quickling”  (my recently invented term for Quick Pickling) my veggies and finally got around to making my own ferments - in the past I have been too lazy to do it but if ever there was a time to start it is NOW!

Favorite Products

A few favorite products you can’t live without right now:

Package free shop’s cotton biodegradable scrunchies (they are super soft and as my hair is constantly getting tangled and these make all the difference)  and Hand rolled copal and palo santo  incense from Incausa - clears energy, purifies the air, and smells earthy and heavenly!

Osea’s Hyaluronic Serum - to keep skin dewy, bright and hydrated

Fresh CSA boxes form our local California farmers

Biodynamic wine from my dear friend Barbara at Cooper Mountain Wines - her pinot noir is divine!

IMG_6064.JPG

Mental and Spiritual Practice

Feeling Gratitude for whatever presents itself each day.

I find that staying rooted in the frequency of gratitude helps me to keep an open mind and heart. First thing when I wake up I articulate my gratitude that morning - for my health, family, friends, partner, creative projects - whatever surfaces in the moment.

This, along with daily seated meditation, tea ceremony and breathwork help me to stay balanced. I recently took a couple weeks off IG and that was amazing and really cleared up some mental space.... I want to make it a habit to get offline regularly.

Most essentially, giving myself permission to slow down and rest in the unknown. There is an overload of information and energy circulating at this time and it feels important (to me) to utilize this moment  to be gentle with myself and others - and trust that we can learn and grow, with love and compassion, from this global crisis.

Quarantine Journal : Emily Rose Shaw, Plant-Based Holistic Health Coach

April 21, 2020

Emily Rose Shaw is a Plant-Based Holistic Health Coach based in Los Angeles.

She shares with us her daily flow and reflections during this time of personal space in quarantine that we all are experiencing together.

Self-Care Flow

These extended periods of time at home can be the perfect opportunity to establish some new health-promoting habits - not just during a pandemic - but for the long term. Health and a robust immune system are really the reflection of all the consistent little habits we practice daily.

At the top of my immune-boosting list is sleep, as it's directly linked to the strength of the immune system. According to Ayurveda, the oldest complete holistic health system originating from India, getting to bed by 10pm allows you to maximize the natural detoxification processes the body goes through. I've been rising early most days, about 6am to sit and read with my tea (yerba mate) before meditating. The foods I've been favoring are hot, freshly cooked meals, a lot of soups and kitchari, the traditional Ayurvedic stew of lentils and rice which is so easy to digest and absolutely delicious! I'm cooking with a lot of spices; curry powder, turmeric, mustard seeds, cloves, black peppercorns, cumin seed, coriander, fennel seed and fresh ginger root. Breakfast has been some version of a stewed fruit bowl, lots of cooked apples and pears with spices that make it taste like pie filling - and then I'll layer in superfoods, quinoa flakes or oats, coconut butter, almond milk, protein powder and cardamom. I've been buying my veggies at the Hollywood Farmers Market or purchasing a CSA box through Flamingo Estate to support our local farmers and load up on immune-boosting fresh produce.

The Spring time is also an ideal time to cleanse the body of toxins that accumulate in the fatty tissue over the winter months. The extra time at home is perfect for a deeper cleanse experience. I just started a 14 day cleanse by world renowned Ayurvedic expert Dr. John Douillard of LifeSpa called the Colorado Cleanse, which is designed to eliminate even the harder to purge fat soluble toxins, detox the lymphatic system and reset digestion. It is largely a non-fat kitchari diet which provides nourishment and protein while extremely healing to the digestive tract. In addition, drinking melted ghee upon rising pulls the fat-soluble toxins down and helps to repair the intestinal walls. Ayurvedic cleansing is truly amazing, the most complete I know of.

Another wonderful self-care practice is expressing your creativity! Whatever that means for you. Recently I’ve reconnected with my background in art and have been having a lot of fun tying digital collage into my health coaching practice. I’m a big believer in finding ways to unite all your passions into purely unique expressions of yourself and the lens through which you see the world.

Movement

I’ve been walking or practicing yoga daily. I was hiking every other day, but with the trails closed I go for walks up the canyon roads that have an incline, it's really beautiful. Getting out into nature everyday is a must. At the end, sometimes I'll take my shoes off and stand barefoot in the grass to ground. I'm also practicing yoga at home with Bryan Kest's Poweryoga.com that I've enjoyed for over a decade. I like the options to filter for the perfect class, whatever your mood.

Plant-Based Transformation Collage FINAL.png

Favorite Products

I like Organic Tulsi Tea, Traditional Medicinals Echinacea Plus Tea, in addition to my regular Eco Teas Yerba Mate or matcha I'll drink daily. I've really been taking this opportunity to practice food as medicine, and have been making a daily decoction of mint, black peppercorns, cloves, tulsi leaves, chopped ginger root and cinnamon stick which helps my lungs breathe deeper. I also love Flora Ex Machina’s Royal Ghee - both the Original Flavor which is chock full of greens perfect for Springtime, and the Gold Flavor which is specifically formulated to help boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. Every ingredient is meticulously sourced and is pure medicine while also tasting like delicious frosting.

Mental and spiritual practice

The spiritual practice I've adored my entire life, since my mother taught me at age 10 is Transcendental Meditation. I practice it twice daily and it helps to relieve stress at a very deep level. Another practice so effective for the nervous system, lymphatic system, ridding the body of toxins, skin health, mental clarity, healthy muscles and joints and a deep sleep aid is abhyanga, self-oil massage. I have been practicing it daily at the end of the day. It makes such a difference! You can create a little spa environment at home to deeply rejuvenate. Warm the sesame or coconut oil gently in a pan and sit on an old towel in the bedroom or bathroom. Give yourself a massage (see link above for instructions), light some incense, a candle or aromatherapy, play some relaxing music or listen to a podcast. It’s heaven.

Quarantine Journal : Mel Nahas, Co-founder of Conscious City Guide

April 9, 2020

Mel Nahas is the co-founder of Conscious City Guide.

She shares with us her daily flow and reflections during this time of personal space in quarantine that we all are experiencing together.

Self-Care Flow

I am very grateful to be surrounded by nature, have a dog and a bathtub. These 3 things bring me connection, joy and relaxation. I am out in nature and walk and play with my dog Pippet each day and try have a bath every few days to relax my nervous system. I know a lot of people don't have any of these things and this privilege is even more amplified for me now, so I am not taking any of them for granted.

Movement

This is an area that I think I'm actually doing MORE of in isolation :) With all the incredible Live Streams happening, I've been able to tune in with a couple of my regular teachers: Kyle Miller @ Love Yoga and a daily pilates mat challenge with Colleen from Atwill Pilates  as well as join in some new fun things I don’t usually get to do like dance and booty breaking with Ryan Heffington. I cherish the walks on our trail with my dog and also experiencing new movement teachers through our programming on Conscious City Guide called The Digital Redirect. We have live stream gatherings Thursday - Sunday @ 5PM LA time and movement classes every Sunday @ 10AM.

Favorite Products

Cooking + Food is a creative process as well as so pleasurable for Taurean me :) I'm sticking to fresh produce: dark leafy greens, lots of fresh herbs and citrus as much as I can. I am very lucky to be surrounded by a couple of great farms within 3 miles of me. I love Plumcot Farm and my Sunday Farmer's Market.

Mental and Spiritual Practice

Running my company Conscious City Guide has kept my mental cogs turning. Our team created a new offering very quickly in mid-March called The Digital Redirect and it has kept us all creatively and mentally stimulated. It's the space we want to continue holding for our event creators who've either had to cancel or postpone their events at this time as well as for us seekers, wanting to continue our connections and conscious expansion as we all ride this wave.  I hope that our Live Stream Gatherings can offer everyone some mental and spiritual solace. I'm also making sure that I acknowledge and sit with the spectrum of emotions, triggers and blocks coming up for me and the collective right now. I process them in the morning after my daily meditation + tea ceremony practice, or in the evening when I'm journaling and taking inventory of anything that has come up in the day and unblocking and calling in my expanders - following my friend Lacy's program To Be Magnetic or studying the frequency and energetics in my being + body through the Water Tiger Community with SriMati.

Quarantine Journal : Peter Nguyen, Recherche Beauté & Indigo Lab

April 7, 2020

Peter Nguyen is the founder of Recherche Beauté & co-founder of Indigo Lab.

He shares with us his daily flow and reflections during this time of personal space in quarantine that we all are experiencing together.

Self-Care Flow

Some self-care rituals I have immersed myself in during these times are preparing and cooking nourishing and nutritious foods and dishes to feed my body, soul and build my strength and immunity. I am of Vietnamese descent, so I have been experimenting with a lot of my mother’s traditional Vietnamese recipes, by getting creative and putting my own vegan and California farm-to-table twist for each recipe, such as my own interpretation of the pho broth, made with nutrient-dense vegetables purchased from local farmer’s markets and Erewhon. I make a large batch of which I can freeze, store and prepare so that I can sip on throughout the day to keep immunity strong and healthy, especially during these times.

I have a background in beauty, so beauty self-care rituals are a must always. I have my own skin care line of which I use religiously, but with the amount of time I am spending at home these days, I have been experimenting and formulating a lot of my own concoctions. I made my own rose water to ingest and use as a skin toner with fresh organic garden rose petals and Mountain Valley Spring Water. I have also made some beautiful body oil infusions with golden jojoba oil and rose hip seed oil, infusing them in glass mason jars with dried calendula, rose petals, lavender, chamomile and yarrow. I have also been taking a lot of baths, of which I will infuse my baths with oat flour, goat milk, baking soda, dried rose petals, honey and a few drops of sandalwood essential oil. My skin feels so soft after and I literally will just float right into a peaceful night’s sleep after.

And lastly, the most important act of self-care I have been immersed in is really taking this time to connect with my loved ones, whether it be via FaceTime, Zoom classes or phone calls, connecting with loved ones has been very nurturing and nourishing to my heart and soul. It is such a beautiful gift to be able to really take time to talk, connect and share stories and experiences with people you love and inspire you.

Movement

I normally live a very active life, so movement is very important to me. Prior to all of this, I held the record for taking the most classes at Barry’s Bootcamp since the new year started, so to be self-quarantined has been very challenging for me. But fortunately, Barry’s Bootcamp has been offering IG Live at-home workout classes I have recently delved into and I love it, as it feels great to move and contract all of the muscles throughout my body and feeling the circulation that makes me feel alive within my body.

Walking my French Bulldog, Luna outside in our neighborhood, beautiful local parks and along the beach has not only been a necessity for her, but a beautiful gift for myself to be able to breath fresh air (the pollution levels in LA have dissipated immensely due to no one being outside and driving), get my dose of vitamin D from the sun, and additional movement in through walking and running with my dog.

Favorite Products

My favorite products I cannot live without right now are my Livon Liposomal Vitamin C packets, Quicksilver Scientific Liposomal Glutathione to strengthen my immunity. And I have been proactively trying to ween myself off of coffee and caffeine in the mornings, so I started using Sunpotion’s Bacopa Transcendent Elixir, and one dropper underneath my tongue gives me that boost of mental clarity and energy without the caffeine. I am obsessed! Another product I can’t live without right now, especially with the state that our world is currently in, in order calm my mind from the barrage of news and developments, I use Bach Original Flower Remedies White Chestnut Extract to calm my mind. Another product I cannot live without and literally living in are my custom made RG Kimono kimono robes made of luxurious fabrics such as sustainable cashmere, silks and bamboo rayon.  It is as if I have wrapped myself in a cocoon made of pure love and intention woven into every stitch by my beloved friend and designer, Rita Ghanime. They are not only comfortable, but also stylish. Who says you can’t feel stylish during quarantine?! And last but not least, I swear by my Recherche Beauté Rose Sauvage Gentle Resurfacing Treatment, a daily treatment that’s smells as though I am waking through a rose garden to start my day. I apply first thing in the morning to tone, gently exfoliate, combat puffiness and brighten my skin before I jump in the shower to rinse it off.

Mental and Spiritual Practice

A devoted and routine mental and spiritual practice is the absolute most important gift we can give ourselves especially during these times. This year has not disappointed in terms of providing us with shocking news and developments. And whether we are aware of it or not, it is absolutely shocking to our nervous systems. My daily practice of Kundalini yoga and meditation with my partner and teacher Kjord Davis has been my saving grace. Known as the yoga of awareness, it not only strengthens our sensitivity to what is unfolding before us, it also strengthens our nervous systems to be able to handle the incessant “shock and awes” we are confronted with. It connects us to our higher consciousness to be able to deeply understand and comprehend what is happening around us, and also grounds us into our bodies through connecting to our breath and feeling the electricity of our bodies.

I have also been delving more deeply into astrology with Kjord as well. His guidance, knowledge and connection to the cosmos has been such an incredible tool for me, like a personal road map for me on how to navigate these times based upon my own connection to the universe.

I have also been doing remote spiritual healing sessions with my friend Jessica Renee of Live Fully. She is based in Hawaii, and brings the serene and calming energy of Hawaii into our sessions with deeply profound sensitivity and connection to higher realms of consciousness. I emerge feeling calmer, more connected and with crystal-clear vision based upon her guidance.

Top 6 Anti-Virals

March 25, 2020

By: Sima Morrison

With many things going on in our world these days, it is important that we keep our bodies strong. We wanted to focus on some natural anti-virals that are worth having in your holistic medicine cabinet right now. These supplements can support boosting your immune system from colds and viruses. Taking care of yourself during these stressful times is the most important thing you can do. Practicing mediation, salt baths, grounding nature walks, a nutrient balanced diet, and being kind to yourself are essential for a happy balanced you.

Olive Leaf Extract

For thousands of years, Mediterranean cultures have been using parts of the olive tree to treat many health challenges. The leaf is extremely powerful. Studies have shown that the leaf has been effective in treating infections, inflammation and high blood pressure. The polyphenol compound oleuropein has immune boosting, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. We always have this in the house and use it during flu season and it really helps strengthen the immune system.

Oregano Oil

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is an herb that is a member of the mint family (Labiatae). This carvacrol oil helps assist fighting bacteria. This is used to treat the common cold, strep throat and supports the immune system. This potent herb contains properties that are antiviral and anti-fungal. Oil of oregano contains two powerful compounds called carvacrol and thymol, both of which have been shown in studies to have strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Oregano oil is considered a natural alternative to prescription antibiotics.

Zinc

Zinc is a type of metal and an essential trace element. Present within all bodily tissue and needed for healthy cell division, it acts like an antioxidant within the body, fighting free-radical damage and slowing the aging process. Zinc plays an important role keeping your body healthy from cold and flus. You can also get zinc from your diet as well. Zinc plays a large role in supporting the liver and warding off unfriendly microorganisms, bugs and viruses.

Black Elderberry

Strengthens the immune system and its health benefits include naturally improving sinus issues, nerve pain, inflammation, chronic fatigue, and histamine issues. When used in the early stages of showing signs of a cold it can help relieve and shorten the duration of cold and flu.  The berries contain chemical compounds called anthocyanidins, which are known to have immuno-stimulant effects.

Cat’s Claw

There are many uses for the bark and root of cat’s claw. This powerful herb is an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal. It’s also used to protect the digestive tract. Cat’s Claw is a great way to boost up the immune system during cold and flu season. If you're around people who are sick or you feel something coming on you can make cat’s claw into an herbal tea. The best way to consume cat’s claw regularly is by making an herbal tea with a tablespoon of the herb in eight ounces of water.

Echinacea

Echinacea is one of the most powerful natural antivirals against human viruses. It contains a compound called echinacein that inhibits bacteria and viruses from penetrating healthy cells. This helps decrease the chances of contracting any type of infection while consuming echinacea. Echinacea is best when used before you feel a cold coming on or when you are in a situation where the body is stressed.

Acceptance On This Full Moon

September 13, 2019

By: Sima Morrison

A lot of us have been feeling all kinds of feels the past few months. A feeling of discomfort, doubt, instability, anxiety and even depression has been coming in our field. As humans we feel things, those feeling are what makes us sensitive, loving and compassionate. Feelings are good, we want to have feelings, just manage them the most optimal way.

On this planet right now we are dealing with all kinds of intensities of the collective consciousness. Distress with the media, state of our planet, human rights, climate change, and a lack of awareness from leaders in governments. These times are bringing up fear and insecurity and with that come the layers of emotions that may manifest helplessness.

The full moon brings many of those insecurities to the surface, for what though…because we must process our vulnerability. The acceptance of those feelings is really what must be acknowledged. We often distract ourselves from the reality of our shadow and jump in a non-productive conversation to deflect, hit the gym, drink, jump in a new relationship, over eat and indulge in many other oblivious activities that numb the true essence of our being.

Do not feel alone; most of us, conscious or unconscious are experiencing this right now. Please give yourself allowance to feel and accept these intensities and know that there is ease when you fully accept in that moment. Everything in life is impermanent and this too, shall pass.

Sproutcraft Creamery: Artisanal Nut-Based Cheeses

May 8, 2019

Interview with Chris Rayman, Founder of Sproutcraft

Photos by: Emily J. Hara / @grassmaven

How did Sprout Craft Creamery get inspired?

Sproutcraft was inspired mostly by my dedication in striving for using the highest quality products that one can get and in this case - not get. Most vegan cheese you can buy in a store are generally made with low quality ingredients and cheap fillers. Also, they tend to lack true aged flavor that you automatically associate with good quality cheese, vegan or not. Naturally working in plant-based kitchens for a number of years as a chef, I experimented and eventually found methods that worked well. This enabled me to use the cheeses I make on menus I develop, or for private events I'm hired to do not having to rely on unsatisfactory or inferior cheese product.

What makes your plant-based cheese different than other vegan cheese on the market?

The cheeses I make differ in regards to the specific type or style of cheese. For instance, the hard aged wheels are aged a minimum of 10-12 weeks for flavor and texture and are firm enough to be grated over foods. Vegan cheeses sold in stores are usually aged a maximum of 4-6 weeks to move product quickly and keep sales higher. The brie and blue bloomy rind wheels I produce are a speciality on their own because this style is not something even available in stores currently except in Europe. The same with the ashed "chèvre" style I make as well, it's not a style you can find in stores currently. Also, I process and dehydrate my own things like tomato powder, turmeric powder, nettles, as flavoring and or coloring in the cheeses. Organic and local ingredients are used exclusively or whenever possible. Also, the packaging or cheese paper is biodegradable made from cellophane and no plastics are used in selling of the product.

How does the fermenting process work? How does the bacteria from your cheese benefit our gut?

The fermentation process works by soaking cashews 6-8 hours then blending into raw cream and adding bacterial cultures and incubating for a period of time to change or lower the ph to be slightly more acidic. This provides an ideal environment for the cultures to produce lactic acid. This lactic acidification makes nut milk a safer food by affecting the flavor and texture as pathogenic and contamination bacteria do not grow in a ph of 4.6 or lower. The bacteria present in the cheeses therefore have a dual purpose: first to protect from unwanted bacteria from growing and as a natural gut aid in consuming them. They help feed our microbiome bringing us to better gastrointestinal health.

What is your self-care ritual before you create your recipes?

I don't really have a self care ritual before I make recipes but in general I like to surf, play guitar, hike, bike, daily meditation and a somewhat consistent yoga practice.

What is your favorite quote?

A favorite quote by Friedrich Nietzsche from Thus Spoke Zarathustra, "God is Dead"

Where does your inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from listening and playing music; living in beautiful Santa Barbara with the ocean and the mountains; and having the opportunity daily to help people transition form the standard American diets to more plant-based, cleaner eating.

ShallotDillCreamchs_9424EmilyJHara.jpg

What are you currently working on?

Currently, I am working on getting Sproutcraft to market and scaling to do commercial production. I am looking to partner with Y’Not Organic juice bar in Pismo beach, which I consulted to open in fall 2017, to launch Sproutcraft commercially. Also, I organize and run pop up dinners with @terraadcaelum locally in Santa Barbara and I have a class coming up on nut-based cheese making @Samasamakitchen on 3/25.

What are 3 things in your holistic medicine cabinet that you cant live without?

1. cannabis oil balm

2. palo santo essential oil

3. sun potion pine pollen.

Where can we buy your cheese?

Currently the only way to buy Sproutcraft cheeses is directly through me personally as I do not yet sell it in stores or online. I do frequent the Santa Barbara farmers market and sell cheeses during.

Chef Christopher Rayman began his career learning classic french culinary in upscale gourmet kitchens. Deciding not to attend culinary school, he was primarily self-taught and gained invaluable experience in the restaurants that began his career. It was his time working alongside other highly-skilled chefs that shaped his experience learning their techniques and methods to develop his foundation of cooking. After years of working in the industry, Rayman made the decision to invest in his own health by introducing an all plant-based diet.

His classic culinary training juxtaposed with the adoption of the avant-garde, modern food movement, forged his own style and philosophy toward food. With the personal change to a plant-based diet, his progression and love of artisanal cheesemaking led him to experiment with non-dairy options. Using nuts as his base, his favorites being cashew and macadamia, Rayman borrows from traditional methods of cheesemaking to create authentic dairy-style cheeses.

Years of testing countless recipes and preparations led Rayman to become a leader in the process of fermentation and non-dairy cheesemaking in the Santa Barbara area. His presentations, along with his remarkable cheeses, have led to the beginning of Sproutcraft; a highly sought after delicacy in Southern California. What began as a personal interest in 2010 has developed into a highly anticipated small scale operation. Small batch, organic, and handcrafted, the cheeses are a stand alone in a market of alternative-dairy options.

Ambrosia Alchemist

February 6, 2019

Who and what is Ambrosia?

Ambrosia in many cultures across the world and throughout time, has referred to an “Elixir of Divine Life.” When drank or smelled, it gifted longevity and connected one to the heavenly realms. Our artisan Ambrosia is attentively crafted with the finest ingredients from around the planet to enhance the mind giving the power to create what you most wish with the highest integrity (Intelligent Infinity), youthfully energize instilling stamina & confidence to thrive to the fullest in your life mission (Spirit Stamina), and lovingly nourish the body & aura with glowing overflowing radiance inside to out (Royal Radiance)!  The highest virtue of Ambrosia is the intention to connect you with your endless luminous soul; a distillation of the Eternal from the transient… for you truly are the sweet ambrosial elixir of love in life.

Can you tell our readers why your new product Intelligent Infinity is so special?

This golden bottle is filled with not only pure brain power, efficiency boosting focus, and creative clarity; but also a calm peaceful non-anxious mind. I designed this formula because I have seen so many dealing with a lack of clarity, anxiety & stress issues, and a not so ideal strength of will. This elixir has been such a balancing factor in my life along with so many around me as well with clients around the world so I am massively grateful to have this be the first spagyric herbal tincture in our line of Ambrosia.

What is a spagyric tincture and why is it beneficial?

This Spagyric Tincture is an initiatory elixir that nourishes the physical body, soul, and spirit of those who receive it. Beyond the average tincture; a spagyric not only contains the alcohol soluble medicinals, but too the steam-distilled essential oil (safely ingestible in the low alcohol carrier) and the mineral plant salts which help the flowing circuitry of your electric being. “Spagyric”: spao, meaning separate, and gyre, meaning recombine, is an alchemical process separating the many parts of a plant, purifying and concentrating, and then bringing back together into a perfectly evolved, hyper-intelligent, and deeply bio-available whole.

AmbrosiaElixirTrinityNEWProductShotWebsiteFinal.jpg

How does this product connect us with higher awareness and consciousness?

Intentionality and detailed to the max, the alchemist aligns the herbs with the moon cycles, current astrology, and earthly seasons infusing the tincture with the highest capacity to naturally harmonize & elevate consciousness. Our axiom is “Follow in the footsteps of Mother Nature” and that is exactly what the pure consciousness of plants can do for humans. In fact, working with plants for so many years and learning to listen so deeply… I have come to understand this is their most selfless giving passionate purpose. When we align with Mother Nature, we attune to our True Nature simultaneously. Then a divine flow state can happen and our unique life mission and excited reason for being becomes wonderfully crystal clear!

Where and how were you inspired to create such unique and effective alchemical creations as Ambrosia?

My mission with sharing wild plants came forth full force after a multiple month long stay living in the untouched desert area of Sedona, Arizona. A new sense of abundance was shown to me that everything we need is provided for so we may be our highest expression of our selves this life. The talent and ability for formulation was gifted to me and since I have been creating formulations for many companies with my greatest excitement being with my own sovereign brand Ambrosia. I created these because I saw that no matter what a person’s eating habits and routines, the herbs were always the harmonizing factor that completed the puzzle to happy vibrant energized living!

What does your daily routine consist of? Morning? Afternoon? Night?

My morning routine starts with stretching, yoga, meditation, chi gong, and a solo ritual Ambrosia “Intelligent Infinity” elixir intention setting to set up my day up for the highest outcome and greatest joy.

Early afternoon I always take a pranayama breathing break and take Ambrosia “Spirit Stamina” to charge up and keep the inspired light flowing with my work thru the afternoon hours.

Early evening I take a quiet moment before any possible nighttime festivities to self-nourish imbibing the Ambrosia “Royal Radiance” elixir along with the inhalation of my favorite essential oils blends (soon to be available on my site).

AmbrosiaLabFlaskArrayGoldenBalance.jpg

What are your top 3 foods you can’t live without?

Arugula, Avocado, Blueberries. I could live completely perfectly content on arugula salads, avo toast, and blueberry acai bowls! Though I would be just as happy living in a mango tree-house in the tropics, no problem.

What are the supplements you take?

I literally only take my three elixirs throughout the day. Occasionally I will take CBD with the Intelligent Infinity Elixir to completely stop anxiety and overthinking. I also make herbal tea with the herbs that are also in my spagyrics. With the combo of these enlivening herbs and a whole organic plant-based way of eating, I feel my absolute elated greatest!

What is your favorite quote?

Look past your thoughts so you may drink the pure nectar of this moment. ~ Rumi

AfternoonAmbrosialTea.jpg

What are your favorite ways of self-care?

I travel the world just to go to hot springs. It is so deeply nourishing to commune with Mother Earth in these powerful locations with such electric mineral-rich healing waters that bring such a sense of being right at home.

What is on the horizon for Ambrosia?

Ecstatically we have just launched the Ambrosia Club which is a monthly subscription (saving you 33% off) to receive each Ambrosia elixir along with a surprise aromatherapy or potion each package. Special videos and meditations will also be shared privately with our Club members to accompany and activate even more the wonderful experiences of our tinctures.

One of my favorite things is to share elixirs and aromas in a ceremonial setting. I have been sharing what I call “Alchemy Ceremony” in Sedona for over three years. I have just returned from Lake Atitlan in Guatemala where I got to hold offerings at a beautiful conscious festival, intentional permaculture retreat, and spectacular full moon eclipse event. Upcoming exciting new events soon in Los Angeles and Ubud in Bali!

** As a VALENTINE'S SPECIAL, Illup is offering 22% off the trinity package of all three Ambrosia tinctures. ASTARA: Luxury Wellness Footwear, with Founder Mariah Lyons

November 16, 2018

What makes Astara a unique shoe brand?

ASTARA is the first and only luxury crystalline grounding footwear brand. There is a grounding technology piece in each sole of the shoe that has been programmed and radiates at the same frequency of the Earth. This resonance is 7.83hz and is called the Schumann Resonance. This frequency has been shown to promote overall balance and harmony within the body. In addition, these shoes also work with crystalline technology and each shoe is adorned with a specific crystal.

How do you combine science and spirituality to revolutionize footwear?

Contrary to many skeptics, science and spirituality are very closely related and intertwined, and yet in many ways, science is still catching up to what mystics, healers and spiritual leaders have known and taught for eons. Scientifically speaking, the component in the sole of the shoe is programmed with a resonance machine that is similar to what NASA uses to keep astronauts grounded to the Earth’s frequency when in space. The stored frequency 7.83 hz, called the Schumann Resonance, vibrates out to the wearer, and under the principles of quantum resonance, similar to tuning forks, the body moves into resonance and vibration with this frequency.

Spiritually speaking, when I received the download for this line, part of the vision shown was the image of a global grid of light. The information given was that when individuals continue to awaken to their true sovereign Self within, they embody more fully their true essence of light, and wherever their journeys lead, they are physically grounding light frequencies into the Earth and into the collective consciousness. The more people awaken and live intentionally and consciously, the more light particles there are on the Earth, the vibration raises, consciousness raises, and we experience more peace, connection and harmony as a planet and collective. I see these shoes as one piece of the puzzle, helping individuals to connect with the Earth, walk with intention, stepping further into themselves.

Image-10.png
Image-12.png
Image-9.png

How do you choose the crystals you use?

I work with incredible family run businesses that sustainably source the stones. As crystals store energy within them, it’s important to me how and from whom I receive them. The first collection was comprised of Clear Quartz, Black Onyx and Rose Quartz. I chose these 3 as the initial collection as they have different and unique vibrations. I feel crystals similar to musical tones, and these 3 harmonize nicely, a low-medium-high tone. Also these stones are familiar for most clients, it was a great way to introduce people to the concept of working intentionally with gemstones on their clothing by using stones they might already have a connection with.

For my next collection, the stones are very unique and quite rare. I chose them for their vibratory rate, gorgeous unique color tones and inclusions within the stones, so each pair of shoes is truly one of a kind.

Image-14.png
Image-15.png
Image-16.png

What healers have inspired you on your journey?

I have been greatly inspired by healers from different ancient civilizations, including Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Polynesian, and Celtic healers. As well as healers from the distant future, and along parallel timelines.

How did your journey into footwear begin?

I was a classically trained professional dancer for many years. I was extremely aware of the connection between our feet and the ground, and how we relate to the floor beneath. After dance I moved into the fashion space, and was a stylist and then luxury fashion publicist. I actually ended up in-house at Jimmy Choo for many years. It was there in my corporate setting, that I began to have health issues arise. I continued to deep dive into different modalities, as began to notice how sensitive my body was/is to EMFs. Back then there was only one book about grounding and one company that made “grounding” mats for under your computer and bed at home. I loved these and noticed a slight difference, and it was then that I started to dream up a shoe that felt as if you were walking on the ground, receiving the Earth’s healing vibrations, but was style and design oriented as well. Being a dancer, I loved feeling my feet and the connection to the Earth, but I also love a beautiful well-crafted shoe, realized they did not have to be mutually exclusive. Never would have imagined this would be my life, but it’s almost as if everything was leading me to this point. To be a bridge, and help people heal, find harmony within and connection to the Earth.

How does Astara promote positive female empowerment?

ASTARA is built on intentional and conscious living. We encourage women to set an intention into the stones and each pair of shoes, and allow the intention to radiate in their field with every step they take, encouraging women each day to take conscious and action oriented steps forward towards the life of their dreams.

Image-21.png
Image-20.png

What makes you grounded?

My sun sign is Gemini, I am quite the dreamer, and air sign and have spent most of my life creating and wandering in other realms. Staying grounded and centered has been my biggest teacher and medicine. You truly create the medicine you need. What keeps me grounded now is my acute awareness. I instantly feel when I start to become ungrounded or when my nervous system is on overdrive, I change my breath and my thought patterning and root back into my body. In addition, having structure within my day and practicing my daily rituals such as meditation and prayer help to keep me grounded.

Honey: Our Bridge to Nature

March 27, 2018

By: Dawn Musil

Many of us know that pollinators play a critical role in more than a third of our food supply. They are essential to the continuation of our species and the millions of plants that surround us, but we can’t neglect the fact that these tiny creatures also play a critical role in our connection with mother nature. Consider that in order to create a single pound of honey, these bees must visit 2 million flowers. That means that for each teaspoon of honey that you consume (and I don’t know about you, but I eat at least a tablespoon of honey per sitting!), that’s over 30,000 flowers that were visited! This connection with hundreds of flowers results in a golden ambrosia that is filled with enzymes, vitamins, and minerals that these flowers have in their nectar and pollen.

Why Raw Matters

However, only raw honey can carry these valuable enzymes and nutrients. When honey is “pasteurized”, or heated to 150 degrees for at least 30 minutes, it is no longer raw and no longer carries these properties. When the microorganisms are killed in the pasteurization process, so are the valuable nutrients and enzymes. The honey then simply becomes a sweet mixture of syrup composed of golden glucose and fructose molecules. Interestingly enough, honey is antimicrobial—so, while many have claimed pasteurizing it as a “food standard”, it does not host any bacteria—making it safe (and far healthier) to eat raw. This raw honey has been prized for centuries and carries incredible value for your body, both inside and out!

History of Honey

Ancient Egyptians knew of this incredible value and used it in food only for royals. They then buried it in tombs, where it lasted for thousands of years due to its antimicrobial properties!

Ayurvedic medicine believed that honey was one of the finest gifts that nature bestowed upon humans and have incorporated it into many Ayurvedic therapies. Additionally, current research shows that honey has incredible humectant properties—meaning it holds moisture—which is why it is used in many soaps, lotions and face masks!!

Allergies Bee Gone!

It gets even sweeter! Local honey can cure your allergies! While the bees are visiting the flowers, they gather nectar and pollen and their tiny enzymes turn what would otherwise be a common allergen into glucose in the form of deliciously sweet honey! So, eating a tablespoon of raw, local honey per day can cure those seasonal allergies by providing a sort of allergen-inoculum in the form of honey!

honey-bees-bees-hive-bee-hive-53444.jpeg

Herbalism and Honey

In Western herbalism, infusing honey with medicinal herbs makes these potent plants into a sweet form! Honey is a great way to extract those precious nutrients and phytochemicals from herbs and makes it easy to ingest even the most bitter of herbs! Herbal infusions focused around lavender and chamomile are my favorite addition to my evening tea to help relax in the sweetest way possible. But the beauty of honey is how creative you can bee! Lemon and ginger-infused , as well as cinnamon and turmeric infused are a few other favorites. Use the recipe as a base for creating your own!

Simple at home infusions: Relaxing, herbal honey

Materials:

  • 8 oz mason jar
  • 1/8 cup dried chamomile flowers
  • 1/8 cup dried lavender flowers
  • 8oz. honey (1 cup)

Get some quality, local honey. It doesn’t really matter what flavor you choose. The lighter the flavor (orange blossom or clover), the easier and faster the infusion!

Pour the dried herbs into the jar. You want the jar to be no more than a quarter full, so you leave room for the herbs expand. You may have some herbs left over.

  1. Fill the jar to the top with honey and screw on the lid. You may be left with some additional honey for you to enjoy in your tea.
  2. Let the mixture sit for 1-2 weeks in a cool dark place.
  3. Strain out the herbs and enjoy.

Alternative hot infusion:

This can be done for quicker, intense flavors: simply heat the honey until it’s very viscous and place cheesecloth over the mouth of the jar with a band. Then, place the herbs on top and pour honey slowly through the sieve. Allow the herbs to sit in the jar for up to 12 hours, then remove the cheese cloth and herbs.

Honey for the Sweeter Good!

Perhaps the most exciting and sweetest (pardon the pun!) part about honey is how beekeeping and honey are being used for social and environmental good!

What’s incredible is the benefit to our natural world and the environment. Without bees, we wouldn’t have 1/3 of our food supply; but, to break that down, that isn’t just fruits and vegetables. Bees are critical to the alfalfa and clover that feeds cows. This means your milk, yogurt and cheese options would vanish along with your favorite strawberries, apples and eggplants! Many organizations are taking the lead on reversing these losses from colony collapse disorder.

Beekeepers in Los Angeles worked to successful make urban beekeeping legal in 2016! Detroit Hives is using beekeeping to revive the urban areas by taking vacant lots and turning them into community apiaries for education. HiveLend is connecting the community with rooftop and community hives in Baltimore. Even Morgan Freeman is doing his part to support the bees by taking up apiculture and supporting the bees with hives of his own.

And you can help, too! Find local beekeepers to buy your honey from, plant pollinator friendly flowers, and begin to bee the change in your community to save these incredible bees and keep this treasure we’ve had around for centuries more to come!

Sima & Emmalea's Biohacks

February 27, 2018

Sima Morrison (Editor-in-chief of House of Citrine) and Emmalea Russo (Plain Alchemy) are admirers of each other from across the country. We had an ongoing email conversation between LA and NYC. The chat centered around our fave biohacks (we love the word biohacks, don’t you?) and organized them for a streamlined reading experience.

Emmalea’s Top 10

1. SLEEP

Sounds simple but seriously the biggest biohack. I make sure to get at least 7, preferably 8 hours a night. The hours between 10pm and 2pm are the most vital. Hormone rejuvenation time!

Sima: Sleep is truly healing. Do you ever have any issues falling asleep or staying asleep? If so, what do you do to help alleviate your sleep cycle?

Emmalea: I fall asleep immediately, which is amazing. However, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and tend to be more of a light sleeper. Lots of exercise, hydration, and less screen time before bed helps with this. And meditating!

2. MAGNESIUM

I'm always looking for nervous system relaxers. Internally, externally. Magnesium everything! It also helps biohack the above biohack -- sleep!

Sima: What difference have you noticed since taking magnesium?

Emmalea: I notice its impact on my nerves right away. Calmer, more relaxed energy and deeper sleep.

3. RAW CHOCOLATE

Magnesium-rich and super joyful.

Sima: Mmmmmh chocolate! Please share with us your current obsession chocolate.

Emmalea: Raw cacao powder always. In everything. I also really love Hu Kitchen's chocolate bars and Moondeli's Mushroom Adaptogen powder (cacao/chaga/cordyceps). When I'm in LA, my favorite thing is Moon Juice's raw chocolate dipped cookie dough. YES.

4. COLONICS

Sima: When does your body tell you need a colonic?

Emmalea: If I'm particularly stressed or noticing any skin issues or have been traveling. It's a great mood elevator, too. I go to Vitality NYC for this. At first, I was terrified -- but I'm a convert.

5. WALK

Sima: Love that you’re a New Yorker! How many miles do you approximately walk a day? What thoughts do you have while on your walk?

Emmalea: Walking is essential for my mental health. I probably walk 10 miles a day. Because I'm in NYC, I walk as a form of transportation. If I'm lucky, downloads about writing projects or art ideas will come through. I also walk my dog, Hanna, around Prospect Park everyday.

6. MyFLO APP

Sima: Tell us about the MyFLO app, we’ve never heard of it.

Emmalea: The ultimate period hack. It keeps tabs on your cycle for you and also lets you track your symptoms and energy levels in each of the cycles. It has helped me align with my cycle and body on a more subtle level.

7. SAYING NO

Conserving energy, especially in the colder months, by saying no to things and hibernating a bit.

Sima: I love that you’re using your voice and building boundaries. Tell us about what you do when you’re hibernating and taking care of yourself.

Emmalea: Most recently, I've relaunched my creative wellness site, Plain Alchemy. I've sort of hit the rebirth button on the project and began a fresh new Instagram account. I'm in the process of making new content and offerings. This involves me going through my own process of healing from neurological and mental ailments and distilling a formula for moving through what can sometimes be an isolating and confusing process -- from symptoms to diagnosis to healing and onwards. And I'm a big fan of nonlinear thinking about healing. Stay tuned!

8. EPSOM SALT BATH

Sima: Tell us your bath routine? Do you feel detox symptoms post epsom salt bath?

Emmalea: No frills. Epsom salt or magnesium flakes + hot water + eyes closed. Total muscular and nervous system release.

9. MINERALIZE

Sima: What minerals do you take? Which ones do you feel are the most effective in your body.

Emmalea: I take zinc and magnesium every night. I also try to incorporate as many mineral-rich teas and herbs as possible. Sea salt! And I'm sort of fascinated by Quinton shots.

10. ALTERNATE NOSTRIL BREATHING

It's like hitting the refresh button on your brain.

Sima: Can you guide us on your current nostril breath work? Does it help with energy?

Emmalea: I went to an Ayurvedic doctor and she prescribed breath work as the most important medicine. Alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana) involves taking an inhale through one nostril while closing the other, and then switching. It balances the sides of the brain and I find that it settles my often very active mind ASAP.

Sima’s Top 10

1. HYDRATE

I drink tons of spring water and oxygenated water to keep me balanced.

Emmalea: YES. So important. Do you collect spring water from Mount Shasta? I feel like I’ve seen this on your Instagram.

Sima: Ha! yes, I do collect spring water in the spring and summer in MOUNT SHASTA, CA, It is the most high vibrational living water that I have tasted. The water is silky and filled with earths minerals.

2. NATURE

The power of eco therapy is profound.

Emmalea: What are your favorite spots on the west coast? East coast?

Sima: Hmmm so many to chose from. I really love Mount Shasta, Sedona and Ojai. I haven’t tapped into the East Coast yet.

3. SALT

Emmalea: Tell me more! What kind and how much per day?

Sima: I love celtic seat salt. It has so many minerals and really helps me stay balanced. Salt is actually very good for you, unfortunately the salt that we are exposed to in most restaurants and in food is actually toxic.

4. HERBS

All kinds especially for the fall and winter.

Emmalea: What are your faves at the moment and how do you take them?

Sima: Lemon balm to keep body clean of viruses and bacteria, especially during the next few months with the weather shift.

Nettle: very cleansing for the body and helps release excess fluid.

Rosemary tea mixed with ginger for boosting the immune system.

Mushroom tonics of reishi, astragalus made with fresh macadamia milk and raw honey.

5. ORGASMS

Keeps my body in flow.

Emmalea: Love this one. An orgasm provides an immediate cortisol flush. Spontaneous or planned?

Sima: YES! Both, I’m married so this is an easy one for me. It really supports my mood and makes me feel like a woman. I feel that a big part of my confidence is being able to express my sexuality. Orgasms also support my sleep cycles, I always feel well rested.

6. BERBERINE

Emmalea: Truth: I had to google this. It sounds interesting. Can you say what benefits you experience and how/when you take it?

Sima: I take berberine to support the eco-system of my gut. I take it a for month straight a few times a year to help kill candida. It is a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and immune enhancing properties. Larger doses are great for stabilizing blood sugar levels.

7. LEMON BALM AND NETTLE TEA

All day and night.

Emmalea: I am drinking nettle/red raspberry leaf/oatstraw tea as I write this! And I drink it all day.

Sima: Obsessed with these teas. I typically add huge tablespoons of honey throughout the day. Now that we are in fall these earthy tea tones really help replenish our bodies in minerals.

8. SHUNGITE

Emmalea: Love these esoteric biohacks. It's a stone, right? Please elaborate on how it helps!

Sima: I always carry Shungite in my handbag or wear it around my neck or wrist. I keep them around my laptop and bedside to clear my space. Shungite is a very powerful stone. It helps clear negative energy frequency in your field. It also helps ease the mind.

9. BITTERS

Emmalea: I haven't explored the world of bitters yet. Can you debrief me on them?

Sima: I LOVE bitters. Made with bitter herbs such as dandelion and burdock. I take it before I eat a meal and it helps with digestion, bloating and  proper nutrient absorption.

10. ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Emmalea: How often and what effects do you experience?

Sima: I take this anytime I eat out at a restaurant, drink alcohol, travel and if I feel off balanced. This pretty such sucks the toxins out of me. You can also use it to whiten teeth too!!!

Emmalea has extended a special offer to House of Citrine readers: 20 percent off your first Alchemization session.

LEMON BRAISED LEEKS / BRAZIL NUT CREAM

By PLANTLAB Culinary

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 leeks, tough outer pieces of the stalk removed, halved lengthwise (or cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp shallot, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp cracked pink peppercorns
  • ½ tsp coriander seeds
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¼ cup vegetable stock
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 cup brazil nut cream
  • 1 tbsp parsley, minced
  • ½ cup brazil nut cream

BRAZIL NUT CREAM

  • 1 cup brazil nuts, soaked 8 hours and rinsed
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • pinch salt
  • 1 tsp sumac powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp grapeseed oil

METHOD

Preheat oven to 350 °F.

Blend the brazil nuts and water on high until broken down, about one minute. Strain through a nut milk bag or chinois. Return brazil nut cream to the blender and blend in the salt (and sumac powder if used). Gradually stream in the oil on low to emulsify. Reserve for use in lemon braised leek preparation.

In a medium bowl soak and clean the leeks in cold water, for 5 minutes, cleaning away any dirt between the layers. Gently shake dry or let sit in a colander to drain away excess moisture.

In a heavy skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add leeks, open side face down against the skillet. Move them around periodically to keep them from sticking. Cook until the open side begins to brown, about 5 minutes. Gently remove from the skillet and place to the side, open side facing up.

Add the shallot, peppercorn, and coriander seeds to the skillet and sauté until the shallot becomes translucent, about 3 minutes. (You may also toast the spices ahead of time if you wish).

Next add the salt, lemon juice, vegetable stock and zest then bring to a boil. Add the brazil nut cream, return to a boil while stirring frequently, then reduce heat to a simmer and return the leeks to the skillet, open side facing up. Cover the skillet with a tight fitting lid, and place in the oven to braise the leeks for approximately 5 to 7 minutes, or until very tender when pierced with a fork.

Remove the skillet from the oven and gently remove the leeks. Place them on a cutting board and carefully cut the leek halves into 3 inch sections. Continue to simmer the liquid in the skillet until the brazil nut cream begins to thicken, stirring frequently. Once desired consistency has been achieved, remove from heat, and stir in minced parsley.

ASSEMBLY

Spoon 1 to 2 large spoonfuls of the sauce onto a small plate. Place 3 to 5 sections of leeks over the sauce, lightly season with salt, and drizzle 1 large spoonful of sauce over the leeks before serving.

THE MISSION OF THE PLANT COLLECTIVE

WE STAND FOR THE EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD PROJECT, founded by Alice Waters, who “envisions gardens and kitchens as interactive classrooms and a sustainable, delicious, and free lunch for every student.” Children are much more likely to enjoy fruits and vegetables if they are involved in the process of growing and preparing them. Today, one in three children are overweight or obese, setting them up for a lifetime of health problems. We truly believe there is a solution in food education. What if all children, regardless of race, economic status and background had a chance to eat healthy food from the beginning? Won’t that set the foundation for a better chance of a lifetime of healthy eating?

WE STAND FOR COMMUNITY, uniting leaders in food and wellness who believe food is medicine, creatively demonstrating how delicious, pleasurable and beautiful healthy foods really are.

WE STAND FOR DISCOVERING NEW CREATIVE WAYS TO USE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, finding healthier versions of holiday recipe favorites that are equally as tasty, and creating new holiday traditions.

Conscious Cheese Platter

November 21, 2017

When House of Citrine hosts events and has friends over, we never skimp on the essentials. We go all out with the cleanest, most nutrient dense products and foods so the people we love can all have an elegant night with the health benefits and without the guilt. Recently, we enjoyed a night with some of our favorite people mixed with some of our favorite companies. We were blessed to share love and laughter while sipping on homemade elixirs and tonics created with Revel Kombucha and Oregon’s Wild Harvest herbal tinctures. We focused on the most nutrient dense biodynamic wines and created stunning cheese platters with grain-free crackers, fresh seasonal organic fruits and salads, vegan chocolates and cheeses, sprouted and activated nuts and lots of love. This platter is great for the holidays or any get together with loved ones!

For those of you who are not familiar with biodynamic farming, it focuses on Rudolph Steiner’s principles that “strive to create a diversified, balanced farm ecosystem that generates health and fertility as much as possible from within the farm itself” (Biodynamic Association, 17). Some of our favorite biodynamic wineries include:

  • Frey Vineyards

  • Benzinger Family Winery

  • DeLoach Vineyards (We adore the Boisset Collection)

20170613_1143.jpg
20170613_1150.jpg

We also chose grain-free crackers because grains have enzyme inhibitors that impair our digestion, causing inflammation. So, we like to stay away from grains whenever possible and lean towards nutritious options that pair nicely with various flavors. Some of our favorite grain-free crackers companies include:

  • Jilz Gluten Free Crackers

  • Lydia’s Foods

20170613_1175.jpg
20170613_1163.jpg

Vegan cheese was essential to our plates, as many of our guests choose to stay away from dairy. However, if you are looking to add milk-based cheeses to your own plates, we recommend using raw sheep or goat milk. Luckily, at our soiree, even the pickiest palate could not resist our vegan cheeses drizzled with local raw honey. Here is a list of our favorite companies:

  • Leaf Cuisine

  • Miyoko’s Kitchen

  • Kite Hill

  • Blönde Kuh

As for nuts, we choose to sprout them ourselves. We go to our local farmers market or health food stores and really focus on searching for not only organically and ethically grown nuts, but also choose nuts that actually emit love and positive energy. We scattered our plates with delicious almonds, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, pecans, and Santa Barbara Pistachios. And of course, Phi Kind Chocolate and Hu Chocolate paired perfectly with our activated nuts of choice.

We were also blessed to have Erewhon Market donate a few light gorgeous seasonal salads of apple, fennel and greens. They were divine and refreshing. Our conscious cheese plates were truly next level with the fruits we added. Slicing obscure shapes and placing each fruit delicately to create palpable hues and tones of sweetness, we rounded off the night with vivid color and a middle eastern style. We used the works: figs, dates, apples, apricots, pears, red grapes, Sun Potion Mulberries, and Imlak’esh Organics Golden Berries .

Check out Jeff Sheirik’s (Rawtographer) photos of this magical night and we would like to thank all the incredible companies that donated to our event. So much love and gratitude resonates from the House of Citrine staff to our friends, family and readers.

Muneeza Medical Intuitive

Muneeza Ahmed : Medical Intuitive

October 24, 2017

It is a true honor to interview this astounding world-renowned healer. Being in her presence is profound. Known as the “Modern Medicine Woman,” Muneeza Ahmed has the gift of true insight and intuition when it comes to healing her patients. Muneeza was blessed to be mentored by Anthony William, Medical Medium, and is a trusted reference for Anthony’s clients. She uses energy healing to clear subconscious blocks and singlehandedly changes lives and rectifies imbalances of the mind, body and soul across the globe. Please refer to her website for information regarding appointments for medical and intuitive readings, emotional wellness healing sessions, online courses and programs, and more. Muneeza is one of the most remarkable healers we have ever met - you do not want to miss a word!

How did you get started into your healing work?

I got started like many people do, because I was sick myself since I was a baby. And around the age of 28/29 a friend handed me a book that talked about reducing inflammation and I took it to heart, read it in one day, and started the diet the next day. I cut out sugar, dairy, grains, meat and eggs overnight and started to heal. I had such a huge improvement, that I fell deeply in love with the power of just food to heal the body. I got off drugs that I had been on for 30 years in just 2 weeks. To me that was a miracle.

I had breathing issues my whole life and on top of that -  multiple mystery illnesses, chronic fatigue syndrome, thyroiditis, asthma, multiple chemical sensitivities, allergies, eczema, multiple respiratory illnesses and chronic sinusitis and colds. I was born and got sick at 3 months old. I developed a chronic bronchitis and my mother would sit inside my crib to help me get steam to loosen my mucous so I could breathe at night. Now that I have babies, I realise just how scary that must have been for her. So I vowed that I would do everything to prevent this with my kids. I delved deep into learning anything and everything about health so I could help my family.

Who or what has influenced your current knowledge base?

My own experiences and those of my clients, but most profoundly, Medical Medium® Anthony William, and all those I followed in the Raw Food Movement, like Dr. Gabriel Cousens and David Wolfe who got me started on the fact that raw foods were super healing. But by far THE biggest influence has been Anthony. The information that comes from the Spirit of Compassion is TRUTH in capital letters, because I have witnessed so many people healing, coming off medications and supplements as they feel better and chronic symptoms they have lived with for most of their lives disappear. These are daily miracles that I get to witness that I am so grateful for. Of course, not everyone’s journey is straight forward nor is it easy. But even through the hardship of healing, people hang on because deep down they know that it can help them truly heal in the deepest way.

What is a common trend you’re noticing that most people are deficient in?

B12, magnesium, zinc, greens, fruit & hydration  - of course the Medical Medium tells us exactly according to Spirit what the most common deficiencies are. It must be truth because when people start to supplement with these nutrients, they start to feel better even without a specific viral or healing protocol. Of course Spirit also recommends the most efficient and effective brands which are listed on the Medical Medium Preferred Supplements page.

What is blocking people from healing?

Knowledge.

The knowledge of the truth that Anthony William, Medical Medium® provides is so profound and yet simple.

So many people have studied so many modalities and those who embark on a healing path are not short of will. It has nothing to do with a person’s will. Everyone wants to heal and be healthy and vibrant.

Where they get blocked is when they do not have the truth of the cause of their illness. Just knowing that is enough to get the process started in a really profound way. This is what Medical Medium has provided to the world. The reason people lose will is because they end up not feeling better. But usually that is because they do not know the Truth.

And then he shares about all the healing protocols, what gets metals out, what truly heals the gut, what removes radiation, pesticides, chlorine, etc. His work is full of TRUTH and wisdom. I have not seen as many people making profound changes in their health as I have with his information.

How do you protect yourself during your sessions so you don’t take on other people’s energy? What do you do? Any cleansing rituals?

I always start with a clear intention - not just for my sessions, but it is how I live my life. I live it with the intention that no one enter my field without my permission and no one is allowed to breach boundaries. Then energetically I take this into my work. It works the same real humans as with those in the spirit realm. Speak the same way and just be really clear. Clear intention is the first thing (plus I have done years of work establishing boundaries, I did not even know what they were, growing up). Then I say a prayer to God and I call in the Angels for help. I ask for my field to be kept clear to serve others to my highest potential as possible.

I start the morning by lighting candles, and diffusers in every room. And then I pray.
And then I start. At the end of the day I say a prayer of gratitude.

How do you nourish your body? (Food, supplement, self-care rituals)?

Oh it has changed so much over the years. Now, what I eat is very Medical Medium® based:  Lemon water, celery juice, HM detox smoothie, mostly raw and low fat. And lots and lots of fruit. I am kinda crazy about good fruit. I will go to great lengths to source delicious fruit. I have been raw for a long time and vegan mostly of the last 10 years of my life. However, a lot of people think that because Anthony is just sharing about fruits and vegetables, that its nothing new. However, he is the one who told us about the power of celery juice alone, wild blueberries, and that there are 56 blends of adrenaline in the body, 36 for most every day activities and 20 or so for special events in our lives, like childbirth. He also shared that there are over 7 blends of hydrochloric acid in the gut, not just one kind like medical science believes. And he taught us about the fact that decaying (fermented) foods are not great for the body, secret sources of MSG like natural flavors and nutritional yeast, and that elevated biotics are the way to go. I mean his books are LOADED with information and with so much detail that every time I read them I learn something new. I cannot wait for the release of his new Thyroid healing book.

I don’t like to share my supplements because people think they should do the same as I do. Plus it's health information and it's private. We are each so unique and different, that it’s not really helpful to share those protocols.

Self care rituals, I take a lot of baths, I listen to and play my favourite music (I am a pianist) and I love to dance. I love to hang out with friends and I love to make good food. This is on top of focusing on essential oils, homeopathy, and my emotional needs.

What are your top favorites supplements your have in your holistic medicine cabinet?

They are the most important ones recommended by Medical Medium. And include Zinc, B12, Liposomal C, lysine, wheatgrass, barley grass, spirulina, Magnesium - these are probably my favourites.

What does a session with you typically look like?

I offer two types of sessions.

Medical Intuitive Reading:

A typical session with me starts with me tuning in with the client before the session begins on the phone. I go into meditation for my clients, everyone I am going to work with that day. I start tuning in and asking for support and help with every case and information starts to come through. Then when I get on the phone to them, it is a continuation of that session.

I first go through all symptoms and conditions, and a little bit of history. I read the body intuitively and then I work out what they need most to heal. And we devise a protocol plan for them. They have the opportunity to ask me questions at the end.

With the Emotional Wellness Session:

I ask clients to share their top 5 struggles (emotional, mental, physical). And based on what they share the session is a combination of coaching on the issue, whether it's a financial purpose, relationship or health related etc., and a clearing of the energies that are underlying the creation of the issue or that are underlying because of the experience of the issue. I most often use Emotion and Body Code techniques to help with clearing and sometimes Angel clearing as well. I have the ability to tap into the Akashic Records and that also helps immensely in these sessions. Often clients walk away feeling a shift with the issue and have things to work on at home that help integrate the energies. I have been able to help people overcome fears, body image issues and clear emotional charge on just about any area of their lives.

What are your top 5 health recommendations for people who may not have the opportunity to work with you?

  • Give up the foods that feed viruses - no dairy, eggs, sugar, gluten, soy, corn & canola - don’t play with this recommendation - take it to heart and actually DO it.
  • Figure out what stops you from implementing what you want to do and achieve. I find this is the single most biggest factor in the way of people doing what they need to.
  • Bring in SOME raw and fresh food into your diet - it helps you hydrate and starts to detoxify you. At least for 2 meals a day eat raw food and eat your last meal of the day cooked.
  • Drink celery juice daily, if  you did not already get that from Medical Medium’s message - it is critical and life saving.
  • Eat every 90 minutes. You will heal and save your adrenals from crashing.
  • Eat Wild Blueberries every single day. This is the food that Spirit says is the best for humans. And Eggs are the worst. They feed every pathogen.

What is your go-to juice or fruit concoction?

Watermelon.
Cucumber.

Separately or both together. I can LIVE on them.

What are your favorite self-care rituals?

My favourite self care rituals are my daily bath, face massage, SLEEP, full body massage and other body work as needed. Plus I love annointing with my favourite oils - people ask me if I am wearing perfume, but often it is just essential oils.

Mind: Mental pursuits, books you’re reading, any kind of mind training, meditation, etc., your rituals of mind).

I am currently reading about the goddess Archetypes in the book - The Goddess Guide. I am also reading more about the Essenes right now. My daily mind training is with my kids. How to direct, how to not be triggered, how to respond calmly in spite of a trigger, how to increase the level of COMPASSION I feel.  This is my daily practice. Oh and the other place I have to go the extra mile on compassion is on social media. Wow are there a lot of non-compassionate comments out there. I believe my mind rituals need to be consistently practiced in life with real humans. Daily.

With Real problems: It’s not as much mind training, but heart training. People come from everywhere, all backgrounds. They have had to wait for appointments, so if an appointment gets rescheduled, or someone gets offended on social media or someone is not getting better, or it’s too expensive, they ask me what to do and how to help them. It's dealing with people’s emotions all day long. This is my mental, emotional and spiritual training ground. It has taught me so much. Anthony and the Spirit of Compassion have helped me understand compassion more deeply. I am so indebted to him for this wisdom. It is the single most powerful thing I have learned from him.

But more than that, my suffering has taught me the most .The lessons in humility and compassion from your own suffering cannot be beaten, if you choose to learn them.

What are some of your favorite natural wellness products?

Oh wow. I love Nadine Artemis from Living Libations. And I love ALL her products. My favourites are her best skin ever, the Rose CoQ10 serum, I love all her teeth products, I love her shampoos SOOOO much. My hair looks like I walked out of a salon after I shampoo with her True Blue Spirulina shampoo and conditioner.

I like some of Annemarie Gianni’s products too - I love her herbal coconut skin oil - I use this for massage.

I love my neurophone by Patrick Flanagan. It’s a meditation device that sends you into a deep state of relaxation. I like Dr. Flanagan a LOT. He is an incredible human. And a great inventor.

In perfumes and scents you cannot beat Nectar by Ami. Ami is a friend of mine. She makes the purest botanical fragrances and they are literally mind blowing - you’ve never smelt anything like them before.

I love my rebounder.

I love orgonite for keeping EMFS neutralised.

I love Kejiwa’s atomisers and mists, they are the most ethereal I have ever smelled. I know the co-founder, Emma Claire Juniper and she is a special lady. They are truly making magic in this company. They have a perfume from a Sedona flower that is truly intoxicating as well.

A lot of people have family members that are going through health challenges, how do we support our love ones gracefully without being pushy.

  •  Lead by example
  •  Offer to make them food
  •  Suggest ONE change at at time, like hey why don’t you try celery juice, or why don’t you add B12 to your daily regimen? Download my Medical Medium STARTER kit for information on how to help yourself or a loved one get started on MM protocols. It’s completely FREE.
  •  Share stories about what people say about their healing from blogs and Social Media that you trust
  •  Show them documentaries, like Food Matters, Food inc. Cowspiracy, forks over knives, Genetic Roulette  - these can change minds without us needing to be pushy, the evidence is presented for itself
  • Show passion and enthusiasm, they will be inspired by it
  •  Have COMPASSION - they are going through a hard time too, it’s not easy watching others make changes when it feels really hard inside
  •  If they make fun of you, let it slide like water on grease. DON’T take their reactions personally. They are not about YOU. They are about them.

I was made fun of a few times when I first went organic. And some who know me will tell you I have a pretty sassy side. I put a can of insecticide on the table for those who did not want organic food anymore. I told them to just spray it on. I was never made fun of again.
