What would be your last meal?
Bacon, eggs and avocado, topped with butter, along with a Bulletproof Coffee for sure. If I’m going out, it’s going to be in a badass Bulletproof kind of way. Plus, who doesn’t love coffee, bacon, and butter?
What does an ideal day look like for you?
An ideal day is when I kick even more ass than what I’ve set out to accomplish for the day. This could include accomplishing both business and personal goals, as well as hacking my busy schedule so I can spend more time with my family. Living the life of a Bulletproof biohacker means most of my days rock because I'm almost always super focused, energized, and in a great mood. And if I'm not, I know exactly why not because I track my body's own data - from sleep quality to ketone levels and heart rate variability - on a daily basis.
What moves you through fear + brings you bliss?
Hacking my vagus nerve - and my whole nervous system for that matter. And if I’m looking for more calm, I turn to the heart rate variability technique. This technique uses your brain and breathing patterns to keep your heart rate in check. Once you have this technique down, you can easily take control of stress and get into “the zone.” The emWave by HeartMath is a great tool to get started in this technique and has helped me transform my response to stress and fear, which allows me to think more clearly and make better decisions under pressure.
What do you do to stay in shape?
Butter, bacon, Bulletproof Coffee, and Bulletproof Vibe. And repeat. But really, high amounts of quality fats - alongside high interval intensity training - are key to staying in optimal shape.
My single biggest breakthrough in the process of going Bulletproof, when I learned to lose and keep off 100 pounds over a decade ago, was that food quality matters WAY more than exercise in weight management.
I also exercise to maximize efficiency, meaning I’m getting as much done as possible in as little time as possible. Stress management and quality sleep also ring in as top priority when it comes to staying in shape. If you’re not doing either of those, even proper nutrition and exercise won’t get you very far.
What are some of your daily rituals or mantras?
Bulletproof Coffee is the obvious answer - practicing daily gratitude check-ins with my kids is the less obvious but also critical piece to high performance! Starting my day by blending together Upgraded Coffee, grassfed butter, and Brain Octane Oil keeps me focused and energized throughout the day.
But perhaps the most powerful thing I do everyday to perform better is practice gratitude - and forgiveness. Without these things, you will walk around carrying weight and grudges that keep you from being an effective leader. You have to get out of your own way to be a good leader, family member, and friend, honestly. It’s as simple as taking time each day to simply be thankful for the things I have and letting things go.
